Welcome! I’m Jackie—a 3rd-grade teacher, lifelong reader, and passionate storyteller. Married to my best friend for 35 incredible years, we’ve raised four wonderful kids (now ages 17 to 29), which means our home has seen every stage of life, laughter, and beautiful chaos imaginable.
Living in the small town of Warsaw in Duplin County, NC, I spend my days shaping young minds in the classroom and my free time hunting for hidden treasures in local antique shops.
Writing is my outlet, a way to pause, process my thoughts, and make sense of the world around me.
Now, as I navigate menopause alongside life's next big steps, I created this blog with my sister to share real stories, a lot of heart, and plenty of laughs as we journey through family, teaching, and life unpaused together.
My name is Desiree, and at almost 52 years old, I’ve learned that life
isn’t about having a perfect plan-it’s about showing up, pulling on your big girl panties, and finding something to laugh about along the way. These
days I’m navigating perimenopause, which has brought plenty of hot
flashes, mood swings, and moments that test my patience. But if there’s
one thing I’ve learned, its that humor can get you through almost anything.
Making people laugh fills my heart. Seeing someone smile because of
something I said or did is one of life’s greatest rewards.
Above all else, I am a wife and mother. Of all the titles I’ve ever held,
these are the ones I treasure most. I have four amazing children and now I
have the incredible joy of being a grandmother to four beautiful
grandchildren. My family has always been my greatest accomplishment
and my biggest blessing.
I enjoy reading and have always had a passion for writing. Writing
helps me make sense of the world. Writing gives me the opportunity to
share my victories, my struggles, my dreams, and all the little moments that make up an ordinary but beautiful life. My story isn’t one of perfection. It’s one of resilience, family humor, and choosing joy-even when life gets messy.
